WHY ARE WE IN ROMANIA?
We currently live in Cluj-Napoca, which is in the Transylvanian region of Romania. Unfortunately, this region is most famous internationally as the location for the story Dracula. It has more going for it than that, however.
We are here in Romania working in a volunteer/consulting-like role with a local Romanian non-profit organization called the ProVita Clinic Foundation. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors and working daily with the president on organizational issues, we are helping them launch a medical center that is focused on baby delivery. This center will be called LIFE Medical Center.
The ministry and the medical center’s vision is in response to 2 critical issues: 1) the abortion crisis in Romania (currently the 2nd highest in the world), & 2) the lack of high quality medical services in the area of Maternity Care.
The ProVita Clinic Foundation was founded 10 years ago by Dr. David Ille, a Romanian Pediatrician, the president of the ministry. The ministry provides free counseling services, educational services, and some medical services as a non-profit in Romania. Currently, we have 4 pregnancy crisis counseling centers around Romania providing free services and for fee medical services. Our vision is to develop another 21 (for a total of 25) by the year 2020, and to do so in a sustainable manner.
Our desire is to link a standard-setting Medical Facility with the message of life, knowing that by touching medical needs, doors often open to heart needs. Clearly this was the model of Christ as he healed both body and soul.
Two foundational and guiding principles that we adhere to are: indigenous and sustainable. Life Medical Center is a mostly indigenous Romanian work (with some U.S. and International partnership help), birthed by Romanian vision and carried on day-by-day with Romanian staff. Life Medical Center will be a sustainable Medical Facility that allows us to support the ministry costs of the ProVita Foundation, while at the same time, addressing the critical needs in the area of Maternity care.
We are currently in the capital campaign stage of the project, raising money on two continents…the U.S. and Europe.
